Technical requirements
We recommend an iPhone 12 or a later model. You can also use an iPad Pro 3 Gen or later. Three cameras are good! The app does work on all iPhones from 8 and onward, so getting started by trying it out on an older device first is fine.
You have to be connected to the internet to add new horses, upload recordings and receive the analysis results. However, you can save recordings for existing horses on your account locally and upload them for analysis once you have access to a better internet connection.
Recordings and results are not stored on your phone, they are accessed through your account when you use the app, which means the Sleip app does not take up much storage space.
Using Sleip actively consumes a lot of data as it involves uploading extensive video recordings and viewing streamed videos. If you're planning to use Sleip via mobile internet, we recommend opting for an unlimited data plan.
To get a result within 5 minutes we recommend that you have an uploading speed of 20 Mbps. Remember that full reception does not always mean that you have a good uploading speed. See more under "Uploading video, accessing, and sharing results"
Payment
We accept both card payments and direct bank transfer payments. We will be happy to set up automatic payments for your convenience.
Yes, you will always get a receipt even if your payments are automatic.
Sleip offers a two-week free trial period. Following this, unless you have informed us of your wish to cancel, your paid subscription will commence. Please note that the cancellation notice period is one month or until your next scheduled payment, whichever is earlier.
Yes, to initiate your trial period, we require your billing details for account set-up. However, rest assured, your first payment request will only be issued after your free trial period.
Yes, simply inform us by email at hello@sleip.com of the changes you want to make to your subscription and we’ll be happy to assist you. Please note that the adjustment of your subscription fee will be reflected on your next invoice.
Contact us by email at hello@sleip.com and let us know that you want to cancel your subscription. We will cancel your subscription in 30 days or just before your next payment.

Recording video
Watch how to record straight line and longing here.
Sleip only measures asymmetries from trot, meaning you will not get an analysis result from a recording of a horse walking. However, many of our customers find the tracking video useful for documentation of other gaits as well.
Yes, for example, bell boots and saddle work, but you shouldn’t have a blanket or other objects covering the view of the horse's legs, hind, and head.
Yes, you can perform analyses of ridden horses as well. Record as usual, Sleip will detect the rider automatically and tag the recording with a helmet in the list on the horses profile. Please be aware that a rider can influence the motion pattern, especially when performing a posting trot.
Avoid having other horses moving in front of the camera while recording, as the AI may follow the wrong horse. This can also affect the processing time. Horses standing still shouldn't cause any issues.
Yes, to evaluate your data correctly, you need to longe the horse in both directions, at least during your baseline measurement. This is because every horse shows certain asymmetry patterns on a circle, which is due to circle-induced asymmetries. To be able to assess these asymmetries correctly, a combination of the left and right circles is needed. Remember to longe the horse in one direction per recording.
You should only record the horse from the outside of the circle, as Sleip is not yet adapted for recording from the inside.
How to record longeing
Uploading video, accessing, and sharing results
If you see a “Delayed” label, it means that Sleip was unable to automatically identify enough trotting strides and the recording ended up in manual review. Our technicians will attend to the issue at their earliest convenience and try to resolve it if possible. If your recording gets labeled “Delayed”, we recommend that you record a new video if possible as it is not certain we’ll be able to produce a result from the original recording.
If your analysis results are incomplete and your recording is labeled with a “View issues” label, we recommend that you create another recording. “View issues” means that Sleip has not been able to produce a reliable analysis because too few strides were captured from the recording. Common reasons for this include:
- The recording of the horse was too short
- The horse you recorded had a blanket on
- There were other horses moving in the background
- There was a fence between you and the horse
- The camera was not steady enough when recording
- The horse was recorded longeing in both directions in one recording. You need to record two separate recordings for the two directions.
- Sand or sand dust covered parts of the horse's leg.
When you longe a horse, you need to do two recordings of the two different directions and then combine them to get full longeing results. We don’t use the summary view horse illustration for longeing since it is two measurements combined.
After you have stopped the recording, you will get the option to delete or upload.
Yes, contact us at hello@sleip.com, stating the name of the horse where the video is now, what time it was done and to which horse you want it moved to.
You can download the analysis video by clicking the downloading icon you find under the battery icon in the top right corner. If you want a copy of the original video , you need to click on it to play it and then make a screen recording from your phone. We recommend you turn the phone to landscape mode to enlarge the view of the original video.

The reason you need to use Sleip to record videos is that we are recording a lot more than "just" the video, we use many of the sensors and features of the phone to ensure good data collection. This data is also used to improve the quality of the analysis.
You can delay the uploading of your recordings until you have a better connection. The recordings are saved locally on your phone until you manually activate the upload. You will find the videos you haven’t uploaded in the list of recordings. Avoid jumping between connections when you upload a video, as this can slow down the process.
Even though you may have many bars indicating that you havegood reception and download speed, it doesn't automatically mean that your upload speed is as great. To get a result back in 5 minutes or less, we recommend a 20 Mbps upload speed.
There are a few things you can do to help speed up the process of getting a result.
- Limit recording time; the minimum requirement for analysis is 10 forelimb strides and 10 hindlimb strides
- Record in good lighting
- Avoid having other horses in view
- Keep the camera stable
- Avoid jumping between connections while uploading

Understanding the results
No, Sleip provides precise measurements of asymmetries and illustrates the level of asymmetry using colours. These measurements support veterinary lameness diagnostic work. Monitoring horses for asymmetries and changes to the movement pattern can contribute to the early detection of potential issues.
To the right of the horse's name, you will find a right icon showing two documents with arrows. Click on the icon and then select any two results you want to compare.
A left or right arrow means it is a longing recording.
A syringe indicates that the recording has been tagged with a diagnostic analgesia performed.
An icon of a person with an arrow means that the recording comes from a recorder user that you have invited.
You can start by deactivating sharing on horses you no longer need to share. If you don’t have any such horse, contact us and we will help you increase the number of horses you can have shared.
Click the icon of two people to the right of the horse's name to see all the recorder users you have shared the horse to. Under each user, there is a button for revoking access which will deactivate sharing.
No, that is up to you. Currently, you have to manually deactivate sharings you don’t need to have active anymore.
Whoever should record a horse for you that has access to an iPhone 8 or later. You only need a name and an email address invite a recorder user.
At the top of the list of your horses, you'll find a button with the text “Shared”. Click it to see all your shared horses and search among them.
The invitee can view the original videos recorded, as well as the analysis videos. They can also see how many strides have been captured for analysis from their recording.. You can find more information here.
