Sleip expands expert support in North America

Sleip is pleased to welcome equine vet Jamie Textor to the team. Jamie is an experienced lameness practitioner and a board certified specialist in both Surgery and Sports Medicine. She will serve Sleip as veterinary representative to support customers in North America.

Understanding conditions in the field

“Sleip is beautifully tailored to the needs of a working practitioner in the field. The app allows you to see the data as it has been generated, stride-by-stride. The team is proud of and devoted to their product and to the user experience. They prioritise the welfare of the athletic horse, and aspire to make objective gait analysis accessible as a tool to interrogate and improve the soundness of these horses.”

Jamie’s career has straddled the academic and private practice sectors. After a residency at Cornell, she worked as a surgeon and lameness clinician at Massey University and at UC Davis, serving clients and patients while teaching students and residents. After her PhD at UC Davis, she founded her own ambulatory practice and offered general practice and sports medicine services.

The lessons learned out in the field, on my own, were some of the most valuable (and difficult) of my career.

"You’re often performing in less-than-ideal environments, with less help, equipment and time than you have in a large hospital setting. If we can deliver a tool to the field practitioners that helps streamline their day and also elevate the level of their patient care and communication with clients and colleagues, we’ve done something worthwhile. I think Sleip can do that, and I’m excited to be on the team!”

Translating science into a user-friendly tool

Jamie was first introduced to Sleip in 2023 when meeting co-founder and associate professor Elin Hernlund at the locomotion lab of the University Animal Hospital's Equine clinic in Uppsala, Sweden.

“She showed me the in-house motion-capture system for objective gait analysis and mentioned that the Sleip app had been developed to perform the task in the field. The university in Uppsala has a real legacy of research on biomechanics and objective gait analysis. There are literally generations of veterinary scientists who have been working in this field there. For me, that’s unique and significant."

Sleip was born from these very well-established roots of research, scientific exploration, a network of collaborating colleagues, and data.

"This means that the foundation behind this product and this company is very robust. Sleip has translated the science of equine biomechanics and computer vision (AI) into a very user-friendly, practical, and approachable product.”
