New release tracks horse ́s health over time

Stockholm, Sweden 2025-01-20

Sleip, the leader in AI-driven gait analysis, releases a new important feature in the app, making it easier for equine professionals and caregivers to monitor each horse ́s movement health over time.

Using the Trends feature, each asymmetry measurement is mapped in a chronological trend graph, and users can quickly see how these metrics evolve. For the team around the horse, the accessible overview of historical measurements is useful not only for evaluating the effects of intervention but also as documentation to support referrals and dialogue around an individual horse’s health and performance.

“By establishing an individual baseline for each horse, we can interpret gait data within that horse’s natural patterns, making it easier to catch even subtle shifts”, explains Elin Hernlund, DVM, PhD, and co-founder of Sleip.

The racing industry, with Hong Kong Jockey Club, Racing Victoria, New York Racing Association and the British Horseracing Authority at the forefront, is increasingly using longitudinal gait analysis as part of the management routine and to support decision-making in pre-race vet checks. Trainers monitor horses with Sleip and can also provide regulatory vets with baseline videos and gait data before race day. This collaborative approach   gives   both   trainers   and   regulatory   vets   more   insight,   with   individual references for each horse.

With Trends, small changes in a horse’s normal movement pattern can prompt timely adjustments to training or medical care, safeguarding both the horse’s health and competitive potential.

Additional information

Using AI to detect even subtle asymmetries in a horse’s movement from iPhone  camera recordings, Sleip provides actionable insights. Analysis results are easily shared between, for instance, a physiotherapist and a veterinarian, or a trainer and a veterinarian, improving communication and collaboration.
