Research update from Sleip, SLU, in collaboration with equine clinics

We’re proud to share results from our collaborative study presented at the 6th ECVSMR Scientific Meeting in Turin: “Correlation of two different scaling approaches of motion asymmetry variables to expert visual assessment of lameness in horses”. The research, conducted by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Sleip, and several private equine clinics, explored how objective motion asymmetry scales align with expert visual lameness assessments.

Anatomical size-scaling showed stronger alignment with veterinary visual assessment. An increase of 0.75 units on the anatomical objective scale corresponded to a one-grade increase on the visual 0–5 lameness scale — demonstrating a clear, linear relationship between objective data and clinical evaluation.
